About
The NatAdaptSK project aims to create the necessary framework for the practical implementation of the Strategy for Adaptation of the Slovak Republic to Climate Change, utilizing both proven and innovative nature-based solutions (Nbs) to mitigate the negative consequences of climate change.
Project Focus
NatAdaptSK strives for a systemic change in the approach to climate adaptation by linking policy, investment and practice. The project is based on nature-based solutions that use nature and the natural functions of healthy ecosystems to address today’s most pressing challenges, including climate change and its impacts. Activities will focus on:
- water retention in three pilot river basins,
- the application of regenerative agriculture and agroforestry on demonstration farms, together with long-term soil monitoring,
- the implementation of close-to-nature forest management in five national parks,
- the design and implementation of climate adaptation measures in three pilot cities using Living Labs, followed by expansion to 50 municipalities.
The project addresses the main barriers to implementing adaptation policies, particularly insufficient cross-sectoral coordination, weak monitoring systems, a lack of data and indicators, limited capacities at regional and local levels, and the absence of suitable financing models for adaptation.
These activities are being carried out by a consortium of 18 partner organisations, including two ministries, research and expert institutions, national parks, local authorities, a university, a non-governmental organisation and private-sector representatives.
